Amrutha is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where she received a B.A. in Anthropology with a focus on medical technology. Her senior honors thesis examined clinical interactions around advanced reproductive health technologies in India. At the Field Museum, she collaborated with the University of Illinois at Chicago in studying urban health and well-being practices in Chicago’s immigrant communities. Amrutha became interested in human-computer interaction after designing prototypes at a digital fabrication lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Within health technology, her main interests lie in human factors and human-centered design of systems and products. Amrutha is working with Professor Abby Wooldridge in designing a mobile application to support pediatric care transitions. The ultimate goal of this project is to create a detailed proposal for a tablet app that would improve the accurate communication of medical information between the staff of the operation room and the pediatric intensive care unit and reduce medical errors in pediatric cases.
