Mervyn Márquez earned his bachelor’s degree (2001) and a master’s degree (2008) in industrial engineering from the University of Tachira, Venezuela. In 2017, he received his doctorate in engineering from the University of Carabobo, Venezuela. The overarching goal of his research is to improve the efficiency and occupational safety in tasks of the manufacturing industry and healthcare services by developing state-of-the-art analytical models and methodologies that integrate human factors, ergonomics, process improvement methodologies, and operations management. While in Venezuela, he was an associate professor, and head of the School of Industrial Engineering before moving to Chile, where he has served as an academic and director of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
