Tara Cohen, PhD, is the Director of Surgical Safety and Human Factors Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Tara is also a research scientist and assistant in the department of surgery. In 2017, she earned her doctorate in human factors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Her research interests involve understanding how human behavior plays a role in complex systems and she seeks to identify solutions aimed to increase safety and efficiency throughout various systems. Her most recent projects focus on investigating the role of intra-operative flow disruptions or events that allow us to gain perspective on the function of a given system. Dr. Cohen has published her work in a number of peer-reviewed journals including Anaesthesia, the American Journal for Medical Quality, the Journal for Patient Safety, and the Journal for Healthcare Quality. She has also given several presentations at both national and international meetings.
